Another method to resolve dissolution of marriage issues is by the use of a mediator. While working as a mediator Mr. Dempsey provides a safe environment in which each person has the opportunity to express their needs, opinions and desires.  If you are represented by an attorney, they may participate in the mediation. A mediator functions as a neutral third party who can and will identify potential legal, financial and tax issues.  However, even though a mediator may also be an attorney; when functioning as a mediator he/she cannot offer legal advice to either party.

The outcome of the mediation is up to the participating parties. A mediator makes no decisions on the issues, but supports both parties to make decisions for themselves. A mediator can assist you to:

  • Clarify issues

  • Identify your needs and interests and those of your children

  • Create options that best meet your needs and interests

Divorce mediations are typically done in a series of 2-2.5 hour meetings with ‘homework’ such as obtaining documents and/or seeking advice from another expert between meetings.

As is Collaborative law, mediation is a good option when you want to work cooperatively and maintain an workable relationship with your spouse regarding future parenting.

Mr. Dempsey has provided mediation services to divorcing families since 1996 and would be pleased to discuss this option with you.
